This is my only real masterpiece right now and it is still slightly unfinished.
I believe I started working on it in 1997 using Imagine for DOS.
When I upgraded to Imagine for Windows in 1998 I continued working on it
and was able to do more of what I wanted with the scene.
For most of 1998,
I had spent a good amount of time working on some graphics for a freeware
game that I do not think has seen the light of day yet. This hiatus
kept me from truly finishing this and other pieces, or at least that's
what I keep telling myself.
All of the inspiration
for my personal graphics comes from one source, and this is no exception.
Off and on since 1992, I have been working on a Dungeons & Dragons
type campaign that has grown into a rather huge story of my own creation.
Every scene I create comes from this story line. This is an image
of a shack that is one of many homes of a mysterious hermit in the story.
I have not yet decided
if I will put more information about this story on this site or not.
There are still several
things that I would like to add to the scene before I can call it a finished
work.
I have thought about
adding a porch that can be seen through the window, but that will come
much later, if at all.
I would like to add
more things to the inside of the shack, but any large items will only hide
what I have already done and small items will be poorly seen, although
they could help a lot.
While I absolutely
love the mountains in the background, I want to make it look like they
are farther away and that the shack is at a lower altitude. Unfortunately,
I have been unable to reproduce the exact look of the mountains.
Each time I try to render the mountains again, the shading is completely
wrong and easily visible as fake. For some reason the shading is
not as smooth as in this image. I will probably just end up using
a scene made in Terragen for a backdrop if I cannot duplicate the right
effect in Imagine.
I started working
on a dragon head in Organica several months ago, but I still need to find
the right texture for the skin. This dragon head is planned to be
a hunter's trophy that will hang above the fireplace. I know I will
have to adjust the wood beams that support the roof so that the dragon
head is not obstructed, but that is the easy part.
This image is a screen shot directly from Organica, with the greatest level
of detail turned on.
This image is the completed Organica object loaded in Imagine with eyes
and some teeth added, and with the latest decided textures applied.
I have not decided what to do for a tongue, the inside of the mouth, or
the horns yet. I just realized that a lot of the curvature is lost
in this textured version because I have not set up any specular color,
which is what makes this look so flat and fake.
