Overpower Strategy
Any-Power Power Cards

Before I explain the benefits these cards could give to your deck, lets just make sure everyone understands how they are played:

  • There is no character in the game who cannot use the level 5 card. However, X-Babies are the first hero who cannot use the level 6. The Level 7 Any-Power card is limited to Level 7 characters.
  • All three cards are OPD power cards.
  • Both cards duplicate with other power cards of the same power level.
  • None counts towards Spectrum KO.
  • None may be blocked by an AD special, excluding those which avoid numerical attacks and power card attacks.
  • The Level 5 card may be combined with any Universe card, excluding Ally. The level 6 and 7 card can only be combined with Basic universe and Teamwork cards.
  • When combined with universe cards, they automatically take the suit of the universe card. Meaning you must meet the requirement in that suit. They revert back to any-power cards once they hit.
  • The Level 5 Black Cat card was available in Combo #22. The level 6 was in packs of JLA, and the level 7 was in Classic Overpower.
Does everyone understand? Good.

Many people thought this card was useless right away, because of the fact that they don't contribute to spectrum KO, which is the easiest way to KO someone.

However, with some creative thought, one can easily see the great benefit of these cards lies in teamworks. In single and dual skill decks alike, these cards help land the second and third attacks easier (especially the level 5).

For instance; if you were using the standard E/I deck: Professor X, Dr. Strange, Magneto, Scarlet Witch, it may be hard to land the third attack of a teamwork, because of the limited number of Fighting/Strength Power cards in your deck. Sure you could put in Fighting Power cards up to 5 for Magneto, but Magneto is likely to be killed first because of his level 11 attack and his lack of Avoids, so you don't want to put in too many cards that are specific to him.

This is where the level 5 Any-Power card comes in. It can make the third attack, since Magneto has a 5 Fighting, and since it can be used by everyone, you don't have to worry about discards after he's dead.

"But what if we just left out 5's altogether and didn't make the third attack or used one of the lower cards?" Well if you don't make the third attack, you miss out on that juicy +2/+3 bonus. And if you use the lower cards, you can only use levels 1-3 meaning your attack will range from 3-6 (depending on what level you use teamwork/power card). That pretty low compared to 7-8. Or, you could use the 5 first, and use the high Intellect attack second, so instead of being a level 8-9 attack, it could be a 9-10 attack (again, depending on what power card/teamwork level you use). Plus five is nicer towards venture than 1-3.

Or, in an alternate deck; Onslaught, X-Babies, Professor X, Brainiac the level six will help you make the strength follow up for Onslaught. (Onslaught again being my prime target, since he has no avoid).

Basically, these cards just helps make use of the "off" colours in your deck.

The level 7 is great for decks with one character whose grid is close, but slightly off. For instance, in my Hellfire Club deck, The Hellfire Club is the only 7 Intellect character. If I don't put in 7 Intellect power cards, the Club is defensless. With them, the other three characters lose defense. The solution: you guessed it, level 7 Any-Power.

The Verdict: Use 'em.
