Monumental - starters and boosters
Released in the Spring/Summer of 1997

This set would probably qualify as one of the signs of the coming of the apocalypse.  This set had more than a few cards that completely broke the game entirely.  Fortunately, all of these breaks have been taken care of, if you have read up on all the rule "changes."  All of which should be on my errata page.  Now for the reasons why you must buy this set, at least eventually.  The two major reasons are the introduction of Locations and the reprints of the Onslaught character card promos [although the second one will do you little good if you do not have any of their Specials].  In addition to those two, there are several characters in this set that see a lot of serious play time.
Unfortunately, we must take the bad with the good.  This set continued with more Doubleshot cards, a failed new card type.  The starter decks, while they were the only places to find the Mission cards and the Any Team Locations Marvel Manhattan and Marvel Universe, were usually unplayable.  Sometimes the starter deck would only contain 3 of the required 4 characters to play and/or would include some power cards that could not be played by the characters that were included.  I think I even remember hearing some accounts of starter decks that contained duplicate characters and their respective Specials.

Basic card totals for this set:

Pros
Cons
Introduced Location cards
Can be difficult to learn to use
Great characters with great Specials
Too many of them could be considered "broken"
Power cards help make this set better for beginners than other sets
Starter decks are mostly unplayable

More Doubleshot cards
