In order to help make more tournaments like the OP CUP even more successful and more fun than the latest one, I want to ask you, the players, for your preferences. Simply copy and paste the following questions and email them to nickw1973@aol.com. All of these questions are purely optional. If you do not want to answer any of them then you do not have to.
As far as the future of the OP CUPs go, I think we
could draw a large crowd if we can hold one in New York, although it may
be difficult to hold one over the entire weekend. There may also
be a large number of players that could be able to make it to one just
across the border in Canada. Lastly, I know that in the past we have
received requests to hold a tournament in Las Vegas. On a similar
vein, Atlantic City may be closer to me, but it is not exactly a central
location for the greatest number of players to attend.
1. Your name.
2. Have you been to any of the OP CUP events so far? If
so, which ones?
3. Where do you live? (city and state, or province)
4. In miles, how far do you think you would you be willing to
travel to an event like this?
5. When would be the best time of the year for you to attend a
tournament like this more
easily, if any?
6. How much of an entrance fee would you be willing to pay to
enter a tournament like this, knowing that all of this money is used for
prizes?
7. Would you like to be notified of any information about the
next OP CUP? [I give you my word I will not use this email address for
anything other than this purpose.]
8. If there is enough interest in your area, would you be willing
and able to host an event like this yourself?
9. Would it be easier for you to attend if the event was only
1 day instead of all weekend?
10. Is there anything else you would like to add?
For number 8, there are a few things to keep in mind. It would be best if you have had prior experience running a tournament, but you may still be able to find enough support online if you have not. You would need to be able to secure enough space at a retail store or maybe even a convention hall to hold a fairly large number of players. There are a few competent people I personally know on the east coast and at least 1 person on the west coast who may be willing to judge the event, so that you could still compete. Of course, I am sure that many players would be willing to judge if one of us cannot make it. Otherwise, you would also need to judge the event in addition to hosting it, which means you are unable to compete.
